Doodle Art & Experimenting

I've done several rough doodles that have gone into the 'circular file' aka-trash!
Also have been exploring and experimenting a bit with color and new paper choices.

I plan to also pick up some different art papers for the black and white artwork and stretch outside my comfort zone a bit so stay tune!

This week we were hit with another nasty cold front and even though the expected ice passed us by it was way to cold to think about doing anything outside.

So of course that meant a good excuse to doodle! (Of course, y'all know ANY excuse or no excuse at all will do!)

I decided to use a piece of scrapbook paper roughly a 6 inch square and a template from Ben Kwok's Ornation Creation page on Facebook.

I kept the doodles themselves to a minimum as the idea was to play with the paper and colors for this piece.

Once completed, I scanned it to my computer and used my Perfect Effects 8 edit program to increase the contrast so the paper pattern showed better online and also added the frame/ border using the editing program.

Here is the finished piece.

Please leave a comment I love hearing from visitiors and stay tune for additional experiments in the (hopefully) near future!

Promoting and Selling my Doodle Art.

Since the first of this year I have been working towards the goal of promoting and selling my doodle art and am excited to report that I have sold five 9x12 inch pieces as well as several 5x7 inch cards even though the cards were simply 'samples' that I was showing to some people for feedback!

Promotion thus far has been word-of-mouth and Facebook updates both on my personal Facebook page and my DayLee's Creative Doodles fan page.

There is a huge Art Show here in April and I am still on the fence about entering it mostly due to a small inventory and a huge case of nerves!  We shall see.....stay tuned to fine out if I do or if I don't...

Here are a few of the popular doodled critters I have completed (and have for sale).
They are drawn with black Micron pen on 9 x 12 inch 90# watercolor paper.

The black borders are NOT part of the original drawing but simply added to help feature them  on webpage.

Feel free to visit both my doodle page and my Facebook page and 'like' us!

The seahorses, giraffes, and the large elephant in the top drawing began as templates found in the Ornation Creation Facebook group. Ben Kwok makes these templates available for any purpose providing you do not reproduce or claim credit for the original template. His awesome artwork can be found on his BioWorks page using a link found in his Facebook group.

Come back and visit this blog for an introduction to more doodle critters soon!

First Zendala for 2015

Well - Here we are well into 2015 and to be honest, just decided to work on this blogspot as a way to share recent doodles and other creative ideas.

Looking for fresh inspiration on this dark rainy day I decided to revist Erin's Zendala Dare posts at the Bright Owl Blog and was wonderfully surprised to see she has resumed the Zendala Dare with new templates.

So here is Erin's template -

and here is my interpretation of it!

I think I'll title it 'Rainy Day Playtime' pop on over to Erin's Blog and check it out. Be warned....working on those templates can get habit forming!!!!  But a great way to spend a cold dark winter day!

Anyone Can Doodle!

Grab a pen or pencil if you like the option to erase...
and whatever paper is handy and get creative!

What? You say that you are no artist? Not the creative type?

 EVERYONE can doodle!

That is true!  Also true is that you and any number of people could doodle or draw a stick figure, or a simple object like an apple and they will all be a bit different.  That is the way it should be, after all we are all individuals...variety is what keeps the world interesting.

It is my hope that by sharing here the different things I am doodling on, about, with or just might be encouraged to do a bit of doodling on your own!  If you are already a 'closet doodler'...jump on out from behind closed doors and share your creativity!

This little dream doodle started when I simply traced around a cookie cutter that was left out. I was on the phone listening to a somewhat one-sided conversation and while murmuring things such as ...hummm, really? To let the other person know I was still there, this little doodle took place and later became a notecard for a friend.

You can use things such as the cookie cutter, stencils, or other shapes as templates and then simply start filling in the outlines. This dachshund was just an outline that I began to fill while the family watched a movie that I just couldn't get interested in.

Join me in doodling daily...

The name DAYLEE here is a play on the 'daily' concept..but also happens to be a combination of an old childhood nickname and my daughter's middle name.  Since my goal is to be creative on a daily basis with DayLee style it just seemed appropriate don't you think?

Go ahead..leave a comment and feel free to share your creative doodle/ drawing/ artistic ideas and passions!!!
